Great for meal-prep or batch cooking, made from scratch black beans are so delicious and easy, you just might want to kiss canned beans goodbye. This is the absolute best way to cook black beans from dry beans. No soaking necessary when you make Instant Pot black beans.
In the Instant Pot, add rinsed dry beans, onion wedge, salt, broth and water.
Put lid on Instant Pot. Lock in place. Set vent to closed.
Set Instant Pot to high pressure or manual for 30 minutes.
When the Instant Pot is done cooking, let it naturally release for 20 minutes. Then release the rest of the pressure and unlock the lid once all the steam has released.
If the beans are not cooked through, replace the lid, lock and set vent to closed. Cook for an additional 10 minutes.
Take the onion out of the pot and strain off the excess cooking liquid.
Serve while warm.
