Cooking hard boiled eggs is easy when you use your electric pressure cooker. Instant Pot hard boiled eggs take just a minute to start then you don’t have to worry about turning off the stove at the right time or making sure you’re timing them. Cook them at high pressure for a few minutes and they’re done!

AIR FRYER HARD BOILED EGGS

Using the air fryer is one of the easiest ways to cook an egg. No hot water needed so if you, or someone you know, has trouble lifting heavy pots (sauce pans) or has tremors in their hands, this might be the best way to go!

STOVETOP HARD BOILED EGGS

Traditionally, eggs have been boiled on the stove. This stovetop method is the one we’ve found to be tried and true. We’ve tested out exactly when to turn off the heat and when to remove the lid.

SLOW COOKER HARD BOILED EGGS

Cook your eggs in your slow cooker (crock pot) overnight while you sleep! Wake up to perfect hard boiled eggs.

OVEN BAKED HARD BOILED EGGS

Try a batch of eggs in the oven to see how easy this egg recipe is!

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

If you don’t want to eat plain hard boiled eggs, consider any of these delicious options.

  • Cobb Salad – Fill a salad bowl with chopped up romaine lettuce. Add bacon crumbles, sliced hard-boiled eggs, crumbled blue cheese (or your favorite cheese), avocado, tomatoes and any other toppings you like. Toss with your favorite dressing.
  • Deviled Eggs – Try these skinny deviled eggs.
  • Egg Salad Sandwiches – See how amazing this sandwich is on a croissant!

STORAGE TIPS

Refrigerate: You can store hard boiled eggs in a refrigerator (fridge) for up to 7 days. Once they’re removed from the refrigerator, they should be eaten within 2 hours.

Freeze: It is not recommended to freeze hard boiled eggs.

Can you hard boil fresh eggs?

We recommend using store bought eggs (older eggs) for hard boiling, as you’ll have more consistent results. You can, however, definitely hard boil fresh eggs.

Why do you need to put hard boiled eggs in an ice bath?

Immersing your hard-boiled eggs in an ice bath (large bowl of ice water) has two benefits. First, it reduces the temperature of the egg, ending the cooking so your eggs don’t get overcooked. Second, it separates the egg white from the membrane, making them easier to peel.

How long does it take to hard boil an egg in an Instant Pot?

If you want the egg white and the egg yolk fully cooked, without getting pasty and green, we recommend 4 minutes, with a 4 minute release

Can you hard boil an egg in a pressure cooker?

Absolutely! We love using our instant pot to hard boil eggs. Simply follow our instructions below to get perfectly cooked eggs.

What is the easiest way to peel a hard boiled egg?

There are lots of people claiming to have the secret to a magical way to peel a hard boiled egg. But the truth is, if you use the ice bath then gently tap the egg and crack the whole outer shell before peeling it should peel easily.

Does it matter what size eggs you use to hard boil eggs?

You can hard boil any size egg. Most recipes and time recommendations are for size large or extra large eggs. If you use medium eggs you should reduce the cooking time.

Cooking hard boiled eggs in an instant pot is easy and quick!

Equipment

  • 1 Instant Pot Electric Pressure Cooker

Ingredients
  

  • 6 eggs large

Instructions

  • Place a rack in the bottom of your instant pot. Place eggs in a single layer on rack. Put as many or few eggs as you would like just make sure they're not touching and are not stacked on top of each other.

  • Add cold water to the bottom of the instant pot. Water should come up to the bottom of the rack but does not need to touch the eggs.

  • Put lid on Instant Pot and seal. Turn the release valve to closed.
  • Set timer on Instant Pot to 4 minutes.
  • When Instant Pot is done, allow it to naturally release for 4 minutes.
  • Remove eggs from the Instant Pot with a slotted spoon. Put eggs into a bowl full of ice water immediately. This will help stop the eggs from continuing to cook and will make them easier to peel.

  • Refrigerate or serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not leave hard boiled eggs out at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
  • Hard boiled eggs can be refrigerated for up to 7 days.
  • For soft boiled eggs, cook for 3 minutes and allow a 4 minute natural release.
  • Your Instant Pot might yield slightly different results based on size and model, remember to write down any recipe time adjustments you’d make so you remember next year!
